Detailed Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and transfer to Virunga National park
- Arrival: on day 1 of 5 days Congo gorilla trekking and Nyiragongo hiking safari, you will arrive at Kigali international airport where you will be met by Achieve Global safari representatives for pick up. You will then head to the hotel for a meal before embarking on the journey to Virunga national park.
- Transfer to Virunga National park: After having a meal, you will be briefed about the entire 5 days safari in Congo as you head to the park. You will enter into Congo via Gisenyi border with a stopover at the park headquarters for the gorilla trekking permit and mount Nyiragongo hiking permit then be driven to your lodge for dinner and have an overnight sleep.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Virunga National park
- Gorilla trekking in Virunga National park: on day 2 of 5 days Congo gorilla trekking and Nyiragongo hiking safari, you will have to wake from your bed as early as 6 am local time, have your breakfast served and meet the driver to be driven to the park headquarters for gorilla trekking briefing and then hire the porter before starting off your long-awaited Gorilla trekking experience. During gorilla trekking, you will be in a position to spot lots of wildlife species such as Chimpanzees, Elephants, monkeys, and many more. Once you get closer to these endangered mountain gorillas expect to spend just one hour of interaction, photo-taking, and many more. Gorilla trekking is always considered to be a full day activity, therefore, give it time and you will surely enjoy it. After trekking gorillas, you will return to your lodge for a relaxed evening as you await dinner and have an overnight stay.

Day 3: Hike up Mount Nyiragongo (Ascend)
- Hike up Mount Nyiragongo: on day 3 of 5 days Congo gorilla trekking and Nyiragongo hiking safari, you are expected to have a morning breakfast, then check out of the lodge and be driven to the starting point of Nyiragongo Hike which is situated near Kibati police post where you will start the hiking safari at exactly 10:00 am alongside the convoy and the ranger guide. You are expected to hire a porter, sleeping bag, a tent, and the cooks who will help you as you are expected to have an overnight at the summit of mount Nyiragongo in a camp. During the hike, you will be in a position to encounter lots of wildlife including forest elephants, monkeys, and birds, and have a clear view of the nearby volcanic mountains. This hike takes about 6 hours to reach the top so you will have to enjoy the enroute packed lunch. Once you get to the top, you will be in a position to view the lava lake as it glows due to the rain fall in the night.

Day 4: Descend Mount Nyiragongo and transfer to Kigali
- Descend Mount Nyiragongo: this is the second last day of your 5 days Congo gorilla trekking and Nyiragongo hiking safari. You will wake up in the morning at the summit of mount Nyiragongo, enjoy the cool breath and be ready to start the journey as you descend back to the starting point of the hike at Kibati police post. Obviously descending is a little bit easy as compared to ascending. During the descending session, you will just be sliding over and the journey will take you about 3 hours to get to the bottom. Once at the bottom, you will be driven to the Congo Rwanda border where you will encounter your driver waiting for you and then cross over to Rwanda for lunch.
- Transfer to Kigali: After enjoying your meal, you will be driven to Kigali the capital city of Rwanda where you are expected to reach late in the evening for check-in at your favorite lodge as you wait dinner and then have an overnight sleep.

Day 5: Kigali city tour and departures
- Kigali city tour: on this last day of your of 5 days Congo gorilla trekking and Nyiragongo hiking safari, you will wake up on a relaxed breakfast at the lodge, then meet your drive to have a brief Kigali city tour depending on your departures time. You will visit some of the Kigali genocide memorial sites, market places, craft shops, and many more. Once you are done with the tour, you will be driven to your lodge for lunch and relaxation as you prepare for your departures.
- Departures: you will then be transferred to Kigali international airport for departures to the next destination.
