The 5 Days Rwanda Wildlife & Primates Tour offers you a great opportunity of adventuring into wildlife and primate on a safari in Rwanda. This trip takes you to highlight of gorilla trekking at the Volcanoes National Park Rwanda.  You will also take part in Chimpanzee tracking and a canopy walk in Nyungwe National Park. There is also golden monkey tracking, a cultural visit and a tour of the city of Kigali. A visit to Akagera and Volcanoes National Park make up the wildlife destinations in Rwanda. The tour starts and ends in Kigali.

Nyungwe National Park is known as capital of primate with over 13 primate species including golden monkeys, Angola colobus, Chimpanzees, black and white colobus among others. It is also one of the largest and oldest afro-montane forests in the world. The main attractions in Nyungwe National park are chimpanzee tracking, nature and a forest canopy walk.

Volcanoes National park is the most popular tourism site in Rwanda. It became known around the world when Dian Fossey started a gorilla research station there in the early 1960’s. Dian Fossey is has been appreciated by the Rwanda government till today, because she impacted a lot on Rwanda Tourism Hub. She helped discover how to habituate mountain gorillas and fought poaching against the endangered mountain gorillas.

Akagera National park is home to all big five and other diversity of animal species as well as bird species.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Pick up from Kigali – Transfer to Nyungwe Forest

Pick up: Upon your arrival at the Airport, you will be welcomed by our driver guide, brief you about the 5 days Rwanda Safaris as he drives you to your hotel or at the park. Depending on your time of arrive, you can go for city tour, visit the Genocide memorial Centre, main city market and artisan shops, the palace of the former president of Rwanda.

After city tour, continue the long journey to Nyungwe Forest with en route lunch. Arrive at the park in the evening, check in at your lodge. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking – Canopy walk in Nyungwe Forest

Chimpanzee Tracking: Wake up have breakfast and your driver guide drops you to Nyungwe forest offices for a briefing on chimpanzee tracking. After briefing, take part in Chimpanzee trekking with help of park ranger guide in search for chimps. The activity can take between 2 to 5 hours. You will be accompanied by an experienced Guide/Rangers. As you search for chimps, you will have an opportunity to get an aerial view of the park, walk cross the viewing platform where you can spot species like butterflies, birds, primates and various tree species.

Once you find them, one hour will be given to you to observe chimps as they behavior and survive in their natural habitat. After trekking, walk back to the Centre and be driven back to your reserved lodge. Have lunch and rest the remaining hour at the lodge. Dinner and Overnight stay.

Day3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park – Visit Lake Kivu

Transfer to Volcanoes: After morning delicious breakfast served at the lodge, you will be pick up and set off the journey to the Volcanoes National Park with a visit to beautiful Lake Kivu and other amazing features. Enjoy unforgettable photos of the lake as you can.  Drive through a beautiful countryside with rolling hills, green plantations and unique local community. You will have lunch along the way.

Arrive at the park, check in and have rest. Later no, go visit the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo. If you have time, you can engage in a boat and visit the island as watch various water birds. Dinner and overnight stay.

Lake Kivu

Day 4: Gorilla trekking – Tour the Iby’iwacu cultural village

Gorilla trekking; You will wake up early have breakfast served with packed snacks and enough drinking water. Then head to the park headquarter in Musanze. Engaging in briefing, you will learn about the gorilla trekking rules, what to expect and the unique creature in the park. The activity is unpredictable –can take about 2 to 6 hours. The experience can be very challenging but the opportunity to observe a group of gorillas in the wild is quite worth.

Once you locate them, one hour is given to tourists to watch gorilla’s habit, behaviors as well as enjoying photo shoot. After, you will hike back to the center and drive back to the lodge, rest.

Cultural Visit: Later in the evening, you will go to the Iby’iwacu cultural village just close to the park. During your visit at the center, you will enjoy excellent cultural performance and learning about the culture of the different tribes in Rwanda. Dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Golden Monkey Trekking – Departure

Departure: Wake up early and have breakfast. Then after, proceed to the park offices in Kinigi. You will meet other visitors who have assembled to take part in the briefing for Golden Monkey trekking.

After the briefing, the park guides will take you in search for the monkeys in the bamboo forests.  The experience completes the activity in 4 hours. They are only found in Rwanda, Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo.

After spending time with the primates, you will hike back to the starting point and find your driver guide waiting to take you back to the hotel for check out and then depart back to Kigali.

The journey back to Kigali takes about 2 to 3 hours. Then, the driver will take you to the airport for your flight departure or to your hotel.
