Detailed Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Nyungwe forest national park
- Nyungwe forest national park: On day 1 of 7 days Rwanda primate safari with Gorillas, Golden monkeys & chimpanzees, you will be picked up by our company representative from your hotel or from Kigali international airport in the morning and be briefed about this 7 days Rwanda primate safari with Gorillas, Golden monkeys & chimpanzees as you transfer to Nyungwe forest national park while viewing different attractions along the way including the rolling hills, plantations and the local Rwandese along the way. Lunch will be enroute and upon arrival at the park, you will check in the reserved lodge for dinner and have your overnight.
Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and Canopy walk in Nyungwe forest national park
- Chimpanzee trekking & Canopy walk: Enjoy a served breakfast on day 2 of 7 days Rwanda primate safari with Gorillas, Golden monkeys & chimpanzees then pack some snacks and drinking water and meet your Rwanda safari driver to be driven to the park headquarters for chimpanzee trekking briefing in Nyungwe forest. After the briefing, start trekking chimpanzees and once you find them, spend an hour of interaction and be returned to your lodge for lunch. After lunch, head to Uwinka for yet a fascinating 2-3 hours canopy walk to experience the best canopy walk with in Nyungwe forest that enables you to view Nyungwe forest national park from a tree height elevation. During both the chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk, you will view plenty of wildlife species including primates such as monkeys, mammals such as elephants, lot of bird species, and different plant species among others. After the canopy walk, you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Transfer to Lake Kivu for afternoon boat cruise safari
- Nyungwe forest national park – Lake Kivu for boat cruise: After breakfast on day 3 of 7 days Rwanda primate safari with Gorillas, Golden monkeys & chimpanzees, check out of your lodge and meet your driver to be transferred from Nyungwe forest national park to Lake Kivu in Gisenyi where you will arrive during lunch time. Have your lunch along the shores of Lake Kivu and spend an afternoon on a boat cruise to exploring different attractions along Lake Kivu and later in the late evening, head to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay as you end your 3rd day of 7 days Rwanda primate safari with Gorillas, Golden monkeys & chimpanzees.
Day 4: Half-day Lake Kivu excursion and transfer to Volcanoes national park
- Half-day Lake Kivu excursion: Enjoy a relaxed breakfast overlooking at Lake Kivu on day 4 of 7 days Rwanda safaris with Gorillas, Golden monkeys & chimpanzees then spend your half day exploring the lake, take part in Fishing, swimming and many other beach activities at lake Kivu. Later in the afternoon, enjoy your lunch then check out of the lodge and embark on the journey to Volcanoes national park with a stopover at the park headquarters for clearances and picking the gorilla and golden monkey permits. Head to your lodge where you will arrive in the evening for check in dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Mountain gorilla trekking in Volcanoes national park
- Gorilla trekking: On day 5 of 7 days Rwanda primate safari with Gorillas, Golden monkeys & chimpanzees, wake on breakfast and meet your driver to be transferred to the headquarters of Volcanoes national park for a briefing before setting to trek endangered mountain gorillas. After the briefing, you will set off for gorilla trekking together with armed rangers and the local tour guides. This will last between 2-8 hours or a full day but only one hour of close contact with the gorillas is allowed. After spending one hour with gorillas, you will return to the lodge for lunch and spend your evening at leisure or have an evening cultural tour to the Ibyiwacu cultural village to enjoy evening entertainment.
Day 6: Golden Monkey tracking & Visit Twin lakes of Burela & Ruhondo
- Golden monkey tracking & Nature walk: As usual wake for breakfast on day 6 of 7 days Rwanda primate safari with Gorillas, Golden monkeys & chimpanzees then return to the park headquarters for golden monkey tracking briefing. After the briefing, you will be transferred to the forest in search of habituated troop of Golden monkeys for tracking with in the forest. Tracking golden monkeys is such an exciting adventure as you watch the beautiful creatures jumping joyfully from one tree branch to another or even on your shoulders. Capture as many photographs as possible since with golden monkeys you are free to leave your camera flashlight on unlike gorillas and chimpanzees. After spending one hour with endangered golden monkeys, return to your lodge for lunch, have some rest and then embark on a guided nature walk to visit the beautiful twin lakes of Burela and Ruhondo and finally return for dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 7: Transfer to Kigali for city tour and departures
- Kigali city tour & departures: Depending on your flight details, you will wake on a relaxed breakfast at the lodge on day 7 of 7 days Rwanda primate safari with Gorillas, Golden monkeys & chimpanzees then check out and meet your Rwanda safari driver to be driven to Kigali for a Kigali city tour to explore the genocide memorial sites, market centers, craft shops and many more. Have your lunch in Kigali and finally be dropped off at Kigali international airport for departures. Or in case you have an overnight in Kigali then you will be dropped off at your lodge.
