This 8 Days Classic Rwanda Wildlife & Primate Tour is well-designed with both wildlife adventure and primates’ encounters. Visiting several safari destinations like Volcanoes National Park for gorilla trekking and Akagera National Park for a game drive home to the Big Five and other animal species such as bushbucks, topis, oribis, waterbucks, roan antelope, impalas, and klipspringers, as well as various bird species.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Akagera National Park

Start your safari by being picked up from your agreed-upon location by our expert driver guide. Brief you about the safari. Then, you will set off on the journey to Akagera National Park, passing through the scenic landscape of Rwanda. Arrive in time for lunch and have lunch.

After having lunch, you will embark on an afternoon boat cruise on Lake Ihema, where you will be able to spot hippos, crocodiles and numerous bird species.  Have dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Morning game drive and return to Kigali

After a morning breakfast at the lodge, embark on a Northern circuit game drive to search for early risers in Akagera. During the game drive, expect to see a wide range of animal species, like elephants, leopards, rhinos, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, and various antelopes.

After a game drive adventure, you will drive back to Kigali with a picnic lunch. Arrive at the hotel in the late afternoon for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Kigali city tour and transfer to Nyungwe National Park

Enjoy a yummy breakfast at the lodge before heading out on Kigali city tour, where you will visit the Genocide museum,Inema Art Centre in Kigali National museum, and local market and experience Rwandan culture, among other things.

After the city tour, you will transfer to Nyungwe National Park, with lunch provided en route.

Upon arrival, connect to the canopy walk before the night falls. Expect to enjoy the suspended bridge that rises 70 meters high above the park. A canopy walk allows you to have a spectacular view of different features, such as thick green forests, primates, and various birds. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Chimpanzee Tracking – Nyungwe National Park

Embark from the park headquarters at around 7:00AM after a morning breakfast at the lodge. You will have a short briefing about rules and expectations about chimp tracking. After the briefing, you will be escorted by the ranger through the forest trails in search of Chimpanzees.

When finding them, you will be given one hour to spend with them, observing their behaviors, habits, play, and feeding as well as capturing videos. Have dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 5: Transfer to Lake Kivu

Wake up early, have a delicious breakfast at the lodge, then transfer to Lake Kivu in Rubavu town. Upon arrival, you will be able to participate in various optional activities, including a boat cruise, kayaking, and birding. Some of the birds you may see include the bronzed sunbird, African fish eagle, tropical boubou, and white-tailed blue flycatcher, to mention a few. During your boat cruise, you will enjoy exploring the beauty of Lake Kivu and its water animal species.

Optionally, you can engage in kayaking on Lake Kivu, where you expect to soak up the beautiful scenery and visit hot springs, as well as bird species like flocks of pelicans, crowned cranes, and long-tailed cormorants, among others.

Day 6: Transfer to Musanze-Gisenyi

Enjoy a delicious breakfast at the lodge before transferring to Musanze-Gisenyi. You will go explore the Island along the Lake on a canoe ride. Visit Gisenyi to have cool relaxation along the shore of lake Kivu with a gain view of the mountain as well as the landmark.

Afterward, you will drive to Volcanoes National Park, a renowned home to a range of mountain gorilla species, among other species. Arrive at the park and check into the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 7: Gorilla Trekking Experience – Volcanoes National Park

After an early morning breakfast at the lodge. You will be driven to the park headquarters for Gorilla Trekking briefing. After the briefing, you will go meet up with the park ranger to allocate you to the gorilla family to be assigned in a group of 8 individuals.

Once you find the gorilla group, you will be allowed one hour to experience their lifestyle and habits as well as enjoy taking photography. Dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 8: Departure to Kigali city or Airport

Enjoy a cup of coffee or tea at leisure before departing back to Kigali city, where you will be dropped off at your hotel or at Kigali Airport for your flight departure.
