Our 8 Days Kilimanjaro Rongai Route takes you to discover the uniqueness of Africa’s tallest mountain peak.  The Rongai route boasts a high excellent rate of 84 and 94 percent on 6 and 7 day climbs respectively. Rongai is great for visitors with perfect exposure to high altitude and offers an escape from fellow climbers, as it requires the longest drive before accessing the park gate.

 The fact that the Rongai route will leave you with unforgettable impressions while testing your strength over a distance of 65 Kilometers ‘’40 miles’’.

This route takes you through the second highest point in Tanzania –Mawenzi while offering bird’s eye views of the mountain’s rainforest.  More fact that, the gentle gradient and its gradual acclimatization bring one safely to the highest point of Africa. Kilimanjaro’s Uhuru peak at 5,895meter.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival – Drive to Moshi 1 Hours’ drive

On day 1 of the 8 Days Kilimanjaro Rongai Route, you will be welcomed in Tanzania by our expert safari guide with a warm greeting, then he will drive you to the Hotel in Moshi town. After checking in at the hotel you will be briefed about your next day’s trek then your mountain guide will check your gear. If you reach the hotel early, have lunch and rest day relaxing at the pool or go explore the town of Moshi. Dinner and accommodation.

Day 2: Rongai Gate ‘’1950M’’ to 1st Caves Camp ‘’2600M – 5 Hours walking

On the 2nd day of the 8 Days Kilimanjaro Rongai Route, wake up early and have breakfast at your hotel, you will be picked up from Moshi and be transferred to the Nalemoru gate. At the gate, the porter will organize and pack the belongings for the hike while you and your waiting lounge register with the Tanzania National Park. You will start your day by ascending into the rainforest.

During this section of the hike, expect rain, mud and fog. You will also search for wildlife including Colobus monkeys. About halfway up the trail, you will have a lunch break and you will access the first caves Camp in the late afternoon or easy evening.

The porters and chef who are experienced enough will reach camp before you and set up your tents, boil drinking water, and prepare snacks for your arrival. After washing up. Enjoy a hot dinner followed by an overnight at First Calve Camp.

Day 3: IST Caves Camp ‘’2600M ‘’to Kikelewa Cave ‘’3600M’’ – 6 TO 7 Hours walking

After breakfast with delicious snacks, hikers will continue their ascent to Kikelewa Cave ‘’3600M’’. The trail passes the second Cave ‘’3450M’’ and this is a perfect spot to take a lunch break. Similar to the first night, your tents will be set up prior to arriving at camp and the porters will prepare drinking and washing water for you.

You will enjoy evening snacks and then dinner prepared by our skilled chef. Then, be prepared for a cold night as temperatures drop below freezing at this camp. Dinner and overnight stay at Kikelewa Cave Camp.

Day 4: Kikelewa cave ‘’3600’’to Mawenzi Tarn Camp ‘’4330M’’ – 3 -4 hours Walking

On day 4, you will be able to enjoy a short hike, yet a steep trail to Mawenzi Tarn Camp ‘’4330M’’. In the moorland, you will adventure exotic plants, including giant lobelia and ground set. While at the camp, hikers expect to enjoy splendid views and allow their bodies to acclimate. Hot dinner and washing water will be prepared for hikers as they celebrate the magnificent sunset. Dinner and overnight stay at Mawenzi Tarn Camp.

Day 5: Mawenzi Tarn Camp – ‘’4330M’’ – Kibo Hut ‘’4700M’’ 4 -5 Hours

After breakfast, hikers will ascend east for a half day hike to Kibo Hut. Kibo lies in the ‘’Saddle’’ which refers to the area within between the peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo in an alpine desert. There is no water at this camp, but hikers can buy mineral water and soft drinks at the camp office.

 You will have an early dinner well served so hikers can rest before attempting the summit the same night. Your guide will brief you in detail about the safety while at summit night. Get to sleep by 19:00! Overnight stay at Kibo Hut

Keep on the Rongai Route for 6 Days.

Day 6: Summit Attempt ‘’From Kibo Hut ‘’4700M to Uhuru Peak ‘’5895M’’ Then Down to Horombo Hut 3720M’’

On your last day of the hiking adventure via the Rongai route; Wake up around 23:30 for tea and biscuits. You will then begin your summit attempt. The trail is rocky up to Hans Meyer Cave ‘’5150M’’. You will continue your ascent to Gillman’s point ‘’5681M’’. Reaching this section is quite rewarding and offers great achievement as the trail is steep, rocky and at high altitudes.

Gillman’s lies on the crater rim. From this point, you will usually experience a snow covered trail till you access the summit – Uhuru peak ‘’5895M’’. Accessing the summit of Mount. Kilimanjaro is once a lifetime accomplishment.

During the hiking experience, you will be able to spend a short time on the summit taking photographs and drinking tea before the descent to Barafu begins.

The return hike to Kibo Hut takes about hours

 While at Kibo Hut, you will rest and enjoy a hot lunch in the sun. After lunch, you will continue descending down to Horombo Hut ‘’3720’’. Have dinner, wash and rest warmly at the hut after s strenuous day.

This calls it a day – Summit attempt Rongai Route 6 Days.  Overnight stay at Horombo Hut.

Day 7: Horombo Hut ‘’3720M to Marangu Gate ‘’1980M’’ 6 Days Walking

Wake up and have a well-deserved breakfast, your staff will have a big celebration full of dancing and singing. From here on the mountain you will present your tips to the guide, assistant guides, chefs and porters. After witnessing, you will descend for 6 hours back to Marangu Gate ‘’1980M’’. The National Park requires all hikers to sign their names to receive certificates of achievement. Hikers who have accessed Gillman’s appointment ‘’5681M’’ receive a green certificate and hikers who accessed ‘’Uhuru peak’5895 M’’ receive a gold certificate, you will drive back to Moshi for long overdue showers and more celebrations. Day 8: Denture 1-hour drive

After breakfast, you will be driven to your departure point for your flight back home.
