Kalinzu forest harbors about 320 chimpanzees and 50 habituated chimpanzees which are open for trekking. The activitity in Kalinzu forest starts early in the morning with a briefing about the rules and regulations to follow at the park headquarters. After the briefing, you will start trekking in the forest with an experienced park guide in search of the habituated chimpanzee families. Chimpanzee tracking in Kalinzu forest takes about 30 minutes to 4 hours depending on where the chimpanzees are located because they like to move from one place to another in search of food. During trekking, you will be able to view other primate species, different birds, plant and tree species, colorful butterflies among others. Once the chimpanzees are found, you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their natural habitat where you will be able to learn more about their behaviors, watch them feed, breastfeed, groom young ones, play, fight, mate, rest, take photos and record videos to show people  back home after the safari.

How to get to Kalinzu forest

Kalinzu forest is located in Bushenyi district and can be accessed by road transport means whereby you will drive from Kampala via Masaka, Mbarara, Bushenyi and then to Kalinzu forest which takes about 6 to 7 hours’ drive.

Kalinzu forest can also be accessed from Queen Elizabeth national park through Mweya peninsula which takes about 40 minutes’ drive.
