How to get to Volcanoes National Park ; Volcanoes National Park is located in northeastern Rwanda regions and can be accessed by both road and by air
From Kigali International Airport or Kigali town;
Travelers flying into Rwanda, arrives in at the main gate away by using a flight to Kigali International Airport which is 116.3 kilometers from the park, estimating 2 -3hours drive. From the Kigali airport you can use either public means of transport or privately hired means of transport. Travelers from Uganda – Visiting the Park from Uganda can be either accessed by road or air. Tourists who have combined safari to both Uganda and Rwanda. From Kampala Uganda’s Capital city and can be reached by air or road according to the preference of the tourist. Volcanoes National Park takes a distance of 518.7 kilometers which is 9 hours and 7 minutes’ drive from Kampala.
By road
From Uganda, by road the park is reached using Kabale -Mbarara road. The drive take you cross through Kampala, Mpigi, Masaka, Mbarara, Kabale, Kisoro districts to Cyanika border where you cross over into Rwanda. After cross Cyanika border you will embark a 1 hour’s drive to the headquarters of Volcanoes National Park. Visitors travelling to the park you can use either public transport means or private means.
By public means there are many bus companies offering transportation to Rwanda at an affordable fee, for private means of transport you can use a private car offered to you by your travel agency.
By Air
By air; There are many airlines that caters for scheduled flights from Uganda to Rwanda’s Kigali International Airport, airlines offering flights like Uganda Airlines, Rwanda air, Ethiopian Airways, Kenya Airways among others.
From Musanze village, you can connect to the park’s headquarters in Kinigi by use of a Cab because there is no public means of transport.
Still, Volcanoes National Park can also be reached from Democratic Republic of Congo, especially to visitors on safari to Virunga National Park and Volcanoes.

By Air; You can flight from Goma Airport to Kigali International Airport. You can cross over to Uganda and get a flight from Entebbe to Kigali International Airport and then connect to the park.
Volcanoes National Park a magical Rwanda safari destination to encounter the unique mountain gorillas, it can be accessed in different means of transport.
However, Volcanoes National Park is a home to over 5 volcanoes out of the 8 Virunga Volcanoes shared by Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda itself. The park stretches through districts of Urera, Musanze, Rubavu and Nyabihu.
