NKURINGO GORILLA TREKKING SECTOR-BWINDI IMPENETRABLE NATIONAL PARK
Nkuringo Gorilla trekking Sector-Bwindi Impenetrable National Park : Nkuringo sector is one of the 4 Gorilla trekking sectors in Bwindi impenetrable national park thrilling in the southern part of the park with the Rushaga sector where as the rest of the sectors including Buhoma thrill in the North and Ruhija in the East.

Bwindi impenetrable national park is the major tourist destination in Uganda reason being that it harbors the largest percentage of the endangered mountain gorillas that are still surviving in the wild. Bwindi is situated in the far south western Uganda which is about 8-9 hours’ drive from Kampala the capital city of Uganda/ Entebbe international Airport.
Nkuringo sector which is in the southern part of the park is the most difficult sector for gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable national park but good for adventurous travelers and photographers since it has a stunning vegetation cover that enable one to take best shots of the stunning and magical beauty of this sector. While in Nkuringo sector, every second spent is so rewarding with abundant of views of different fauna and flora species making it the most stunning sector in Bwindi Impenetrable national park.
Nkuringo sector has only 3 habituated gorilla families that are available for trekking all year round on a daily basis implying that the Uganda Wildlife Authority issue out 24 gorilla trekking permits for Nkuringo sector on a daily basis for 8 persons per gorilla family.
Each gorilla trekking permit comes with only 1 hour of closely viewing the gorillas, park entrance fees, and the rangers guide but it excludes the porter fees.
Trekking gorillas in Nkuringo sector is a physically challenging experience that requires abit of fitness level thus before embarking on your gorilla trekking adventure especially in Nkuringo sector, ensure that you do some physicals like squats, jogging, sit-ups and many more to make yourself flexible and ready to withstand the toil of gorilla trekking in Nkuringo sector of Bwindi impenetrable national park.
Nkuringo sector was opened up for gorilla trekking adventure in 2004. The first gorilla family to be habituated in Nkuringo sector was Nkuringo gorilla family that was first spotted around River Kashasha just below the Nteko valley and upon completing its habituation process, it was later on available for trekking and later on more 2 families were as well habituated bringing a total of 3 habituated gorilla families in Nkuringo sector.
Nkuringo Gorilla trekking Sector-Bwindi
Like any other gorilla sector in Bwindi impenetrable national park or any other destination that harbor mountain gorilla. This adventure starts early in the morning with briefing at the park headquarters where all trekkers meet and be briefed about the gorilla trekking dos and don’ts before embarking on the forest walk to search for these endangered primates in their natural habitats.
Upon completing briefing, trekkers are grouped into 3 different groups each with 8 person and led into the forest for the adventure in the wilderness of Nkuringo sector in Bwindi impenetrable national park.
Note: All trekkers must be aged attest 15 years and above which is the minimum age limit for gorilla trekking in Uganda. And a maximum number of 8 persons trek a particular gorilla family for an hour on a daily basis.
Well, once in the Forest, trekkers are rewarded with lots of encounters with different fauna and flora species since Nkuringo sector is a magical part of Bwindi forest thus each second spent in the wild is rewarding.
As mentioned earlier on, the terrains in Nkuringo sector are difficult thus expect to spend more time in search of Gorillas but worry not as there is a lot to see even before spotting the gorillas.
Upon finding the mountain gorillas in their natural habitats, you have to spend a maximum of only 1 hour in presence of Gorilla taking photographs and later on exit the forest back to your lodge.
A permit to trek gorillas in Nkuringo sector costs $700 per person for foreign Nonresidents, $600 for Foreign Residents and UgX 250,000 for Ugandans and East Africa Community Member states. These gorilla trekking permits can be obtained directly from the Uganda Wildlife Authority headquarters in Kamwokya.
