Gorilla trekking experience

 This is the most popular tourist attraction that attracts thousands of tourists to come visit Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. In the entire world there are only three countries to trek the unique mountains gorillas Uganda, Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo. In Uganda can be trekked in two recognized national parks; Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda and Virunga National park in Congo.  Of all the Gorilla National Park, Bwindi sounds the best park to trek the rare mountain gorillas in East and Central Africa and about highest population of mountain gorillas can be seen in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. In total Bwindi has over 650 individuals out of 1065 remaining mountains gorillas in the world. The park hosts the highest number of habituated gorilla families numbery of 22 in total. Visitors   on  visit here can also go for the gorilla habituation experience where gorillas are first undertaken into a training process for aroun2 to 3 years in order to get used to eye contact with humans and if the park range notices then the government will officially open to the public .Gorilla habituations is a full day life experience  of gorilla activity in jungle with packed lunch boxes  since its whole day activity provided with 4 hours to spend with them observing as they feed ,survive in the forest , play ,lay their nest in the evening hours  and as you enjoy memorable photography and capturing videos. Gorilla habituation is done with expects of doctors, journalists, park ranges and guides who help them to collect sample from gorillas for more research purposes.

 Whereas, Gorilla trekking is a half day life experience which can take 30 to 6 hours depending on the gorilla family and their movements. But before going for Gorilla habituation or gorilla trekking, you first a short briefing about gorilla rules and after be escorted in a group of eight people by the park range in forest trails in search for them and once the gorilla family is found one hour is given to the tourists to enjoy primate’s life changing moments. The reason why visitors are allowed one hour because gorillas are semi-wild and prolonged presence of humans which get to their nerves. For instance, if a gorilla charges at you, never run away just stay calm and low in a submissive posture and all should be fine.

Note; One to be part of these amazing activity, need to buy a valid Gorilla Permit as a ticket to allow you enter the park and trek the mountain gorillas. Uganda gorilla permits are purchased direct from ‘’UWA’’ Uganda Wildlife Authority or by help of reliable tour operators.

Uganda Gorilla Trekking costs USD700 Per person per trek foreign nonresidents, USD600 per person per trek and UGX250,000 East African members.

Gorilla habituation experience which can only be done Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and goes at USD1,500 per person per trek, the same amount of Gorilla trekking a one hour’s activity to Uganda’s Gorilla habituation, also USD5,00 per person per trek.

Guided Hiking and Nature walk

Bwindi   Impenetrable Forest   is a UNESCO World Heritage Site   since1991 and is under the management of ‘’UWA’’ Uganda Wildlife Authority. Bwindi has interesting forest trails that allows visitors marvel around the beauty of the park’s various species such as vary of beautiful butter flies, primates, birdlife and wild animals like forest elephants among others. Interesting trails to take in order to enjoy the Africa nature on foot starts from Buhoma to Nkoringo, take another route from Nkoringo to Lake Mutanda and then Nkoringo to Kisoro. However, these trails go through thrilling scenery and provides opportunities to tour around the locals.

Along your guided nature walk experience, you can also hike through Buhoma Village walk which leads you to the local communities where they can learn about how members of an indigenous African tribe spend their day.

Take hike to waterfall trail where you will be exposed to pristine forest and be able to view orchids, fern, birds and beautiful butterflies.

You can tour another interest trails of Munyaga River trail that locates you below Buhoma park offices where you can be able to enjoy sight-seeing of birds and primates like L’hoest’s monkeys and Colobus monkeys.

All you need is a help of guide to find direction and a porter if you traveled with heavy equipment’s such as cameras, drinks and warm clothes. They will also help you in finding direction and identifying the different species of birds and animals.

Mountain Biking –Cycling

Visitors interested to go explore the scenic surrounding areas where you can be escorted by expect bikers. You will be able to take a run in different several amazing trails like through the local villages and in forest where they can sight some of the forest creatures and waterfalls.  Though biking is not very prominent in Bwindi but we can organize them the activity. Mountain bikes can be hired from the park lodge.

Bird watching

Bwindi is also one of the stopping areas for birders on Uganda Birding Safaris.   A home to 90% endemic to the Albertine rift which can be spotted in several forest trails with gainful view of plenty of notable birdlife such trails include; River Ivi trail, Munyaga River trail, Ruhija’s bamboo trail and the Mubwindi Swamp trail. While walking through these trails expect to view a lot of bird species includes; Wester green tinker bird, Yellow-streaked greenbul, Purple-breasted sunbird, Neumann’s warbler, Mountain masked apalis, Many- colored bush –shrike, Grauer’s broadbill, Black-headed sunbird, Black-faced warbler, Black –faced rufous warbler, Black- billed turaco among others.

The Batwa pygmies these are the oldest indigenous tribe in Uganda, a tribe which used to stay with endangered mountain gorillas in the forest before the area gazette into a national park. Through visiting them you will not be disappointed, you enjoying their amazing tradition dances, storytelling and drams.

Cultural and Village walks

You can visit the Batwa tribe or the Bakiga who live at the rim of the forest. Travelers can visit one of these tribes and be able to learn about their stunning culture and economic activities.
